A. Solid Mechanics :
Homogeneous and isotropic media Stresses and strains, elastic constants,uni-directional tension and compression.Compound stresses Principal Stresses & strains Failure theories of homogenous and isotropic materials.

Bending moments and shear force and stresses due to them in beams. Deflection in beams. Columns -stability and critical loads.

Torsion of shafts, Combined bending, torsional and direct stresses.
Thin cylinders and spherical shells under internal and external - pressure.
Strain Energy in elastic deformation, impact fatigue and creep. Stresses in frames, analytical and graphical methods of finding forces in the members of trusses and girdeys.

B. Fluid Mechanics :
Properties of fluids, fluid statics -pressure at a point, forces on plane and curved surfaces.Buoyancy-stability of floating and submerged bodies, Dynamics and fluid flow; Continuity , momentum and energy equations applied to flow in closed conduits and free surface flows, Ideal fluid flowstream function, velocity potential, circulation and vorticity , flownets separation and basic patterns of flow.

Dimentional analysis-units and dimensions, non. dimentional numbers, Buckingham's pitheorem, Principles of similitude and application.
Viscous flow-flow between static plates and circular tubes, Boundary layer concept, drag and lift.

Incompressible flow through pipes laminar and turbulent flow, critical velocity, frictional and other losses in piping systems . Pipe network analysis.

Open channel - flow measurements, uniform and non-uniform flow, specific energy and critical depth Gradually varied flow; surface profiles.

C. Soil Mechanics :
Origin of soils, Three phase system : index properties soil classification.
Premeability and capillarity seepage basic equation for flow through porous media. Flow net characteristics. uses and construction. Flow through earth dams.

Stresses in soils-Concept of effective stresses. Geostatics and applied stresses, Stress distribution in soils stress path.

Consolidation-Terzaghis theory of one dimensional consolidation. Laboratory determination of consalidation parameters Settlement computations.

Shear streangth Mohr-Coulomb failure criterion. Laboratory and field methods of determination of shear strength parameters.

Earth pressures -Classifical Theories of earth pressure determination by analytical and graphical methods.

Stability of slopes finite and infinite slopes, Taylor's stability number and its uses . Swedish circle method. Bishop's simplified method.

Bearing capacity : Computation from laboratory and insite tests for shallow foundations.

D. Surveyings :

General Principle sign conventions plotting of maps Topo sheets and their uses

Levelling : Types and adjustments of instruments. Fly, reciprocal and precise levelling . Corrections for refraction and curvature , errors in levelling.

Theodolite - Componants, fundamental axes and adjustment of transit theodolite Measurement of angles and their recording. Theodolite and tacheometeric traversing. Traverse Computation. Triangulation. Errors and their adjustment.

Contouring - Characteristics, uses. and plotting Computation of areas and Volumes.

Curves : types and their setting. Elements of photogrammetry; basic principles., definitions, stareoscopic vision and measurements, different scales of Vertical photographs, determination of flight height and elevations (Ground relief) from vertical photographs.Ground control survey.

E. Building Planning Materials and construction:
Planning - General Principles of planning, lighting, ventilation and orientation of buildings. Functional location of rooms in a building.

Materials. - Stones, bricks, lime, cement and concrets, timber, plastic and paints.
Construction. - Detailing of walls, floor, roofs. staircase, doors and windows as per is codes of practice .
